I think this is inevitable. The tools are so good and automated that anyone can make quality video (not necessarily quality content). Being the center of attention and getting seemingly easy money is tempting to kids. I think it's great that nonsensical careers such as creating half assed videos on internet is less lucrative business, it's only positive thing because it steers next generation into selecting better career paths. Hopefully there's a solution that keeps quality content such as Ozzy man afloat, but in the grand view of things this is only a positive thing. What comes to kids mindlessly staring and swiping screens is the result of outsourcing parenting to devices.

I completely agree with you. The UA-cam algorithm is atrocious. I watch 1 video from a channel I'm not subbed to and then my recommended feed is 80% that persons channel which after a few days really pisses me off so I hit the "do not recommend channel" button

I'm a teacher. Kids don't read anymore. They want fast information. Fast videos. Fast everything. They barely learn how to think for themselves. They follow trends that are damaging. They think views and likes have meaning on TikTok until I show them how easy it is to get a following on there. It's sad.

I remember thinking, "these 10 to 15 UA-cam videos are threatening the quality 20 to 40 minute programs that we have on TV. It's just not enough time to introduce and portray any useful information or a meaningful plot". But nowadays, I've been thinking, "man, these 1 to 2 minute shorts are going to compromise the quality UA-cam videos by encouraging creators to break down their useful 7 to 12 minute videos into meaningless digestible chunks". 🤣The times sure have changed. What would they think of us now? lol 😅

My first real joy from and understanding of this platform was a Perth gal maybe somehow related to a lesbian dance club, maybe not, but in any case : i felt her self-aware(ish) sense of humor very deeply. I started with long form videos, but I had to start adding shorts too, because I couldn't get anywhere when it came to views and subscribers. I'm not saying that my videos are of high quality, but I also see trash creators getting more and more success. I think that the current algorithm is exactly as you stated. It gives a short encouragement for people to continue creating, but with less and less possibility for real earnings, especially for creators of long format videos.

I despair that such an intelligent man , with a natural ability for the job, is unsatisfied with his work place. But as a guy who pretty much wasted my entire day screen viewing, I can't say much.

After seeing a video where someone was caught gluing that garbage onto a turtle, only to fake removing it for views.. I don't trust a single one of these videos anymore.

Are UA-cam decision makers not aware that they built the platform on the creators' backs? Do they not know that regular viewers, like all of your fans here, are also a huge part of what makes them the money the so love? We love you, Ozzy Man, very very much, and we truly hope you don't give up. Seeing a new video from you, now matter what the content, is the highlight of my week. If you creators could find a way to get together and somehow force the powers that be to treat you all more fairly, your fans would definitely stand behind you. I know I would.

My channel's watch time: 42K hrs. Views: 4 million. My revenue earned from YT: ZERO. I feel like they're milking small creators too, and making it intentionally difficult to get monetized so they can reap the rewards as long as possible. They only seem interested in my Shorts content. I often wonder if it's ever going to be worth it...

Thanks for discussing all the behind the scenes bs. I don't know how youtubers keep grinding out the content. Twenty years ago, I went through something similar with photo agencies. Agencies were a 50/50 partnership with creators until someone had the bright idea of "hey, why don't we ruin the business!" and shaft the creators. Although they made money in the short term, the agencies basically destroyed their business model. I was wondering when those kinds of ideas would emerge in the social media space.
